Toronto, Canada – October 19th, 2009 – American company JUFTi Games today emerged victorious in its battle to lift an unfair ban on the word cornhole – central to the title of its popular iPhone game - in Canada after taking protest to the streets of Toronto.
“The Canadian Government has acted admirably in working to lift the ban on the word Cornhole,” Hootman said today in downtown Toronto. “JUFTi lobbied to free Cornhole All-Stars, and we’ve seen success in that endeavor, but questions remain as to the process and openness of the App Store process.”
JUFTi filed formal petition and numerous requests for information with Apple in Cupertino, California, the Harper Administration in Ottawa and the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council in Toronto.
“Protectionist limits on speech and trade have never served the ideals of freedom,” Myers said. “When we gave Cornhole All-Stars to the world, we were really trying to tear down barriers, now that we’ve removed the one between the US and Canada, we can concentrate on more open lines of communication between developers and Apple.”
At issue were seemingly arbitrary Canadian Government standards and a lack of consistency throughout the Apple App Store. Apple oversees the products sold on its ‘shelves,’ often assuming the standards of localities in which it operates. The Canadian Government labeled the word Cornhole offensive, mandating that it be represented by a “C***hole” in the App Store, and effectively placing a trade embargo on Cornhole All-Stars in Canada.
“The issue is about a country, and the people’s ability to speak freely, intelligently, and in terms that some may not be entirely comfortable with,” Hootman, said. “Cornhole All-Stars was created by the people and for the people, and now people can share it – regardless of where they live.”
“Cornhole All-Stars” – the iPhone application that takes the popular bag toss game Cornhole from the backyard and puts it in the hands of millions of players – was created to be played anywhere at anytime. The app is available online (www.CornholeAllStars.com) and is now available in the Canadian App Store under its rightful name.
In the hopes of freeing Cornhole from censorship, JUFTi has collected formal letters of protest with the Canadian Government and Apple. Visit www.SayCornhole.com to join the movement.
